Description
Engineering Manager oversees and contributes to the development and implementation of engineering and manufacturing processes to maintain proper product functionality as well as cost efficiency. Works with the engineering team and other manufacturing departments to ensure cohesive collaborations. Engineering manager is responsible for the development and creation of design and manufacturing technical design packages (engineering drawings, and engineering analysis (verification), procedures, processes, and equipment to aid in the manufacturing processes. Reviews, evaluates and implements engineering changes and specification requirements. The engineering manager manages and works with subordinate staff and contractors in the day-to-day performance of their jobs or engineering project function. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain an Engineering Department that follows Industrial Engineering Standards and Practices and complies with ISO 9001 processes
- Develop Annual Engineering Budgets (NPD department, IRAD, and CRAD)
- Develop Annual Engineering goals
- Report of NPD Budgets to COO (Monthly)
- Reporting of Engineering, IRAD, and CRAD project status to VP Engineering (Weekly)
- Review and approve actions, staff, and timelines directly with VP Engineering
- Build and maintain a team that is competent, dedicated, and motivated to achieving company goals
- Directs and manages ASU Engineering technical production documentation database to include standardization of drawings, drafting manual, standard notes, library etc. (ASU Network/ASU Share file Network/ ASU Product Documentation Vaults)
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in industry tradeshows or conferences
- As a working manager, will direct, manage and assist ASU Cockpit Modification (STC) groups drawing/drafting development and maintenance function as well as develop and manage Engineering Drawing Quality Control process
- Directs and oversees ASU transition to production engineering projects
- Directs and manages ASU respective product engineering configuration change board (CCB) and engineering CCB meetings
- Runs and manages formal ASU product engineering Corrective Action Request (CAR) process through formal engineering corrective action process function
- Collaborates with Quality department to ensure vendors/subcontractors are manufacturing products according to product specifications
- Assists in the engineering/technical assessment of vendors/subcontractors for consideration
- Stay informed concerning new engineering/manufacturing technologies and equipment in order to manufacture and reduce cost through efficiencies
- Attend STC Cockpit meetings to stay abreast of changing schedules. Develop and maintain engineering schedules in order to deliver goods and services according to internal need and ultimately the ASU Promise dates
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in product or manufacturing engineering
- Minimum 3-5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 3 years in an engineering supervisory position; Prefer experience with Elctro-optical system/subassembly/component manufacturing; Experience as a team leader; Technical background, specifically process/manufacturing engineering
- Knowledge of fundamental design practices including problem definition, concept selection, proof of concept, and implementation
- Ability to catch minor engineering documentation errors which can result in major product and production problems
- Analytical skills for evaluating inforamtion carefully and solving complex problems
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written; communication skills for overseeing staff and working with other management personnel
- Excellent computer skills with direct and practicing experience in current industrial engineering Computer Aided Design (CAD) software tool standards such as Solidworks or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize; Requires strong engineering project management and team building skills, and ability to establish priorities and work direction
- Relevant training and/or certifications as an Engineering Manager
- US Citizenship required due to government contracts
