Purpose:

The EH & S Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining a strong safety and environmental culture, and leading  the safety and environmental functions  through pro-active programs, processes, and education. The individual will be responsible for leading and implementing all aspects of the safety and environmental programs, including maintaining compliance with  State and Federal regulations regarding compliance with existing corporate standards, industry best practices and audit processes and to ensure continuous improvement in plant safety & health and environmental performance. The individual represents management and acts as liaison in all interactions with those regulatory organizations and agencies. The position works directly with corporate and division personnel, managers, supervisors, leads and employees across all production and office departments

Job Description:

SAFETY – Responsible for short and long term safety program planning, including annual safety plans and injury reduction goals to support a sustainable environment.

Safety Program Management includes safety and health policy/procedure development and administration, safety program audits and inspections, review and application of State and Federal regulations and development of safety training to support prevention initiatives.
Oversees and implement activities of site hazard recognition-evaluations and control, conduct safety inspections, incident investigation, root cause analysis, ergonomics (office and manufacturing), 5S, and site safety teams.
Active member of the facility Emergency Response Team and Safety committee’s.
Organizes and maintains training programs including emergency response.
Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters, and/or specific training programs.
Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
Participates in process reviews (such as process hazard analyses, etc.).
Daily management and engagement of the line organization is required to manage and improve incident investigations, hazard control, safe work practices, compliance and safety and environmental communications.
Evaluates site equipment, systems and work procedures and recommends effective procedures for safe use.
Implement all organizational safety policies and procedures and pursue safety operations documented in the written safety program.
Maintain periodic, frequent communication of safety status with all levels of management.
ENVIRONMENTAL – Responsible for short and long term environmental program planning, including annual environmental plans and waste reduction goals to support a sustainable environment. Organizes and maintains the various required EH&S training programs including OSHA, and emergency response.

Environmental Program Management includes environmental policy/procedure development and administration, program audits and inspections, review and application of State and Federal regulations and development of environmental training to support prevention initiatives.
Lead and serve on various EH&S related committees.
Complies with all environmental safe practices and regulations. Reads all SDS’ and possesses thorough knowledge of all oil and chemical labeling and storage requirements.
Conducts or assigns the responsibility for conducting the EH&S self-inspection and safety huddles in their areas of responsibility.
The position requires significant time on the shop floor engaging line management and department personnel through coaching, training and reinforcement.
Ensures compliance with all environmental regulations and facility permits. Leads the development of environmentally friendly practices.
Oversees all environmental issues in the areas of air, water, and waste.
The incumbent is a key member of the plant management staff and participates in key business strategic initiatives, quality initiatives, community communications, and focused efforts with various steering committees.
Prepares site EH&S reports and must submit to various agencies in a timely manner.
Coordinates review, approval, and procurement of site PPE.

Preferred Requirements:

Education / Experience/Certification

5+ years of Environmental, Health and Safety Management work experience, with increasing levels of responsibility.
Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industiral Engineering or related field preferred.
Certified Environmental Professional is a plus. PE preferred
Specific experience in the areas of Ergonomics, Behavioral Based Safety or similar programs, Machine Guarding, Title V permits, waste water permitting, NPDES compliance, OSHA, DOT, Environmental Regulations.
Experience in Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
Solid track record of successfully implementing and managing safety and environmental processes in a manufacturing environment.
A fundamental working knowledge and understanding of State and Federal regulations pertaining to Iowa, North Carolina, and Alabama OSHA, NFPA, and ANSI.
Incumbent must have strong knowledge and experience in the areas of Hazard Communication, LOTO, Machine Guarding, Confined Spaces, Contractor Safety, and Electrical Safety.
Genral familiarity with basic principles of Industrial hygiene is required. Implement any required engineering controls to reduce or eliminate the potential for employee exposure.
